Decarbonising a National Logistics Company’s Property Portfolio
Renewables
Decarbonising property portfolios is a priority for logistics companies, but identifying efficient solar deployment strategies involves challenges around ROI, grid dependency, and costs.
Our Brief
A national logistics company sought to decarbonise their property portfolio by evaluating the potential for solar energy installation. A key objective was to determine the most efficient deployment strategy, including whether battery storage was necessary to optimise energy use.
Our Solution
cThings collected data from the company’s primary industry meter and used cThings Cloud to model the impact of potential photovoltaic (PV) arrays on energy usage patterns. This analysis also included scenarios for battery storage, grid feed-in, and self-consumption to ensure the most effective configuration for each site.
The Results
The data provided valuable insights, allowing the client to prioritise sites for solar installation based on return on investment (ROI) and minimising grid dependency. Furthermore, the analysis showed that battery storage was unnecessary, significantly reducing capital expenditure by eliminating the need for additional storage systems. By understanding solar generation patterns, site demand, and ROI differences, the client made more informed decisions about their energy strategy.
Benefits
- Prioritised installation sites based on ROI and reduced grid reliance
- Eliminated the need for battery storage, reducing capital expenditure
- Optimised solar generation and energy consumption for greater efficiency
- Informed decision-making that contributed to a sustainable energy strategy
