This month cThings demonstrated LoRaWAN technology in the United Arab Emirates. The focus was on the benefits of collecting readings from water meters to help detect leaks in the utility providers systems and also provide accurate and consistent billing information for residents.

Along with our partners, we deployed a LoRa network as a technology demonstration for the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority to cover an entire city district in the Emirate of Sharjah. We retrofitted our Flexi-Sensor to existing water meters, enabling us to collect data.

Despite the challenge of working with a variety of legacy water meters, at various prone-to-flood locations and in areas with poor signal strength we were able to successfully demonstrate that we can collect, process and display via our cThings Cloud platform, data that can then be used to run an efficient and cost-effective utility business.
