Working with local authorities in London to develop IoT solutions

Digital Catapult has been running smart trials with four local authorities in London and invited cThings to attend their two-day workshop to discuss the challenges the authorities have with social care, waste management, footfall monitoring and air pollution.

Digital Catapult is the UK’s leading advanced digital technology innovation centre, accelerating the adoption of new and emerging technologies to drive regional, national and international growth for UK businesses across the economy.

cThings attended both days and participated in discussions about the use of Internet of Things (IoT) in the social housing and smart homes sectors. We demonstrated several of our products including the SmartValve, Flexi-Sensor and Room Sensor, and received excellent feedback on the possible application for the authorities projects.

IoT has huge potential to transform local authority service delivery by using its Low-Power Wide-Area Networks (LPWAN) technology that offers them a simple, low cost, low maintenance means of connecting thousands of things to the internet, such as care homes, parking spaces, rubbish bins, traffic lights and housing estates.

Our team offered insight into the technical aspects of IoT, including the types of devices and software that would be needed to create and control their systems, plus the potential application and uses. We look forward to working with Digital Catapult again to see the results of the trials.
